What is a vegetarian diet?

A vegan diet?

A pescatarian?


If some or all of this is new vocabulary for you, no worries. There is quite the movement happening in the food and health world. People are making healthier choices, paying more attention to what they're putting on and into their bodies, and really emphasizing self-care.


Here are the differences:


- "Vegetarian": A vegetarian diet consists of mostly plant-based foods like grains, fruits, vegetables, and other things that do not consist of animal and seafood meats. Some vegetarians will eat eggs and some may not; however, butter, milk, and cheese is fair game for those adhering to the vegetarian diet.


- "Vegan": A vegan diet consists of 100% plant-based foods. There are no animal products consumed while following a vegan diet, so things like animal milks, cheeses, eggs, and, for more strict vegans, honey is also avoided completely. A vegan diet is made up entirely of grains, nuts and seeds, fruits, and vegetables.


- "Pescatarian": A pescatarian diet is that of the vegetarian as well as eating fish and seafood.
